Monica L. Barley obtained a Bachelor of Science in physics and mathematics from the Université de Moncton before entering the Faculty of Law to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer.

After being called to the bar in 2002, Monica became an associate lawyer at Forbes Roth Basque and went on to be a federal crown prosecutor.  

In 2010, Monica began her career at Actus Law Droit, where she became partner in 2012.In her practice, she focuses on dispute resolution in estates and estate planning. In 2014 and 2015, Monica was Chair of the Financial and Consumer Services Tribunal, an independent adjudicative body that holds hearings and appeals under New Brunswick financial and consumer services legislation.

Monica has held several volunteer roles. She is a former President of Crossroads for Women Inc., a shelter for women and children victims of family violence. She is chair of the Wills and Trusts Section of the New Brunswick Branch of the Canadian Bar Association as well as past chair of the Elder Law Section of the New Brunswick Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and past President of the Social Pediatric Center of Southeast New Brunswick. She was also a board member of the Vitalite Health Network.

A self-described golf addict, Monica and her husband Kolin live in Upper Rexton.
