A native of Jacquet River, Shawn has resided in Moncton since he was an articling student in 1994. After several years of practice, he joined Actus Law Droit as a partner in 2007.
Today, his practice is mainly in the areas of corporate/commercial (incorporations, reorganizations, asset/share purchases/sales, etc.), residential/commercial real estate transactions and financing and estate/succession planning.
Shawn graduated from the University of New Brunswick with his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1994 and was admitted to the New Brunswick bar in 1995. Previous to that, he earned a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree (political science/Canadian studies) at the University of Ottawa.
Shawn currently chairs the (Real Property) Practice Review Committee and sits on the Law Society of New Brunswick’s Implementation Committee. He previously sat on the Law Society’s Title Insurance Liaison Committee. As well, Shawn lectures in the areas of corporate law and wills/probate for the Law Society’s bar admission course.
On a monthly basis, Shawn presents on legal issues to new entrepreneurs through the Community Business Development Corporation (CBDC) Westmorland Albert and has also presented to other groups on a variety of legal issues related to his areas of practice. In the past, he has also served as the chair of the Wills, Estates and Trusts section of the Canadian Bar Association (New Brunswick Branch).
A strong believer in giving back to the community, Shawn currently serves as past-president of the Riverview Soccer Association and is one of the Association’s founders, having served on its board of directors since 2004. He is also the current President of the Eastern Soccer League which typically is comprised of between 60-70 youth soccer teams each season. Shawn has also coached various youth sports teams, including soccer, hockey, basketball and baseball. He also chaired the Irving Oil World Junior AAA Baseball Championship’s organizing committee when the event was held in Greater Moncton.
Shawn previously sat on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Moncton and also co-chaired its Sustainability Committee. In the past, he has also been president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Moncton.
Shawn is a recent recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, honouring significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
Shawn lives in Riverview and is married with three children.
